Dear Writer

Dearest, It’s A Full Circle

Now, it’s time to draw new circles.

You remember 2014. It was a dark place. You were in Bali — a heaven on earth — but you couldn’t feel the lovely breeze. It was cold, biting.

You took a break from writing. You didn’t want to write again. You were ready to bury the dream. But, the circumstances didn’t let you do that.

On most Thursdays, you were challenged to write stories about something other than yourself. But as someone who was aching, you used that chance to process things.

You coloured the dark place with shades other than black and white. You wrote alternate endings as closures. There’s one where you find deserving love. There’s another one which you stayed like that forever. There are also other narratives, I know you know. I know you remember. You used that ache and sew the wound with every letter written but not sent.

You kept writing, up until today.

You remember 2020. You published your first book. You were in cloud nine but you couldn’t stop crying because you’ve been through hell and back. There were days you wanted to quit editing your manuscript because you felt like opening dried wounds. There were times you didn’t want to open the pieces because you couldn’t stand reading your hormonal past self. That’s why it took a long time but it’s worth it. Your first book was published at a time you were almost at peace, almost at ease. It was the right moment.

Dearest, Bali called you. She invited you to launch your second book there. It’s like she heard your silent cry during those sunsets. Those tears might be the point zero percent of its sea. She’s giving you a chance for closure, to draw a closed loop of the circle.

It has been seven years since the dark place, but you managed to get out. Sure, there are still days where you drag yourself back in, but it’s different now.

You have painted a full circle. It is made up of words you thought would never find their way to you. You’ve found the end of the circle. Now, it’s time to draw new circles or continue drawing a loop — an infinite.
